Trekkies around the world are rejoicing because it has been announced that a new Star Trek series is in the works. The show will premiere on CBS and then new episodes will be available on CBS All Access digital subscription service. The CBS service costs $5.99 a month and was launched last year and includes current and older television programs. It should be interesting to see if CBS will create more original program for All Access to increase their subscriber count.
Alex Kurtzman, producer of the newer movies, will serve as the executive producer of the series. The show, however, will not be connected to the movies. It will introduce new characters. The next movie in the film series, Star Trek Beyond, will be released in Summer 2016. The 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise is coming up soon so these are exciting times for fans.
