Apple has announced that starting on January 28th, iTunes Radio will no longer free. The service will change formats to be subscription based. If you want to hear specific artist stations like Luke Bryan or specific genre stations like 80’s rock, you will have to pay $10 a month. Beats 1 will be the only free station once the changes take place. Apple launched their radio service back in 2013 and was free to users with ad breaks in between songs and a limited amount of skips.
This move is considered by many to be Apple’s attempt to compete with Spotify and Pandora. The movie will no doubt frustrate current users who have been getting the service for free. There’s already been backlash on social media sites like Twitter. Only time will tell if this big change will work out for Apple and their attempt to be the king of music streaming.
